Maui Nui Basin
Maui Nui (literally “big Maui”) Basin is the nursery for humpback whales from Alaska, California and Mexico. The shallow depths and warm water are ideal for a nursery. The food supply, not so for adults. The Humpback breeds, births, plays and competes for attention, but does not eat before the journey back to west coast feeding grounds.
