Spirit Bear

The Kermode - Spirit Bear - is a subspecies of the American Black Bear and lives in the Central and North Coast regions of British Colombia. While most Kermode bears are black, some cary a recessive mutant gene and, like labradors, can produce a white cub. The Spirit Bear is not albino but does have pigmented skin and eyes. Fewer than 400 white-colored Kermode bears are estimated to exist. These bears were photographed on Gribbell Island during and between torrential rain storms. The cost: one camera body and one essential lens.
